Bernadette Waterman Ward is a Professor of English and Undergraduate Director of the English program at the University of Dallas. She holds a PhD from Stanford University and previously served at the State University of New York before joining UD in 2000. Her research focuses on Victorian literature, particularly Gerard Manley Hopkins and John Henry Newman, with significant contributions to Catholic intellectual tradition studies and mimetic theory. She has published extensively, including monographs like *World as Word: Philosophical Theology in Gerard Manley Hopkins* (2002) and *Eliot’s Angels* (2022), alongside dozens of articles.
Her academic service includes editorial roles with *The Hopkins Quarterly* and leadership in organizations like the St. John Henry Newman Association and University Faculty for Life. Ward’s work frequently bridges literary studies with theological and ethical inquiry, addressing themes like sacramentality, conscience, and human dignity. She has delivered keynote addresses on topics ranging from Newman’s educational philosophy to the ethics of artificial intelligence in modern literature.
Ward’s teaching spans core curriculum courses such as *Literary Tradition I–IV* and specialized subjects like *English Romanticism* and *Newman and His Circle*.
