Fr. Joseph Van House, S.T.D., is an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Theology at the University of Dallas. He holds a B.A. and M.Th. from the University of Dallas, an S.T.L. from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and an S.T.D. from the Catholic University of America. His research focuses on Cistercian thought, ressourcement theology, and the works of John Henry Newman, with particular expertise in medieval spirituality and liturgical theology. He teaches courses such as Medieval Spirituality, Sacramental Theology, and the Nature and Mission of the Priesthood.
His scholarly contributions include analyses of Cistercian monastic tradition and monastic hermeneutics, highlighted by publications in Nova et Vetera and Cistercian Studies Quarterly. He is currently preparing two forthcoming books on Cistercian theology and the Song of Songs. His presentations focus on themes like contemplation in medieval thought and theological method in Newman’s writings.
Fr. Van House actively engages in monastic education through workshops and lectures, including a 2024 formation program for Trappist monks. His academic work bridges historical theological scholarship with contemporary monastic practice.
