Gary Bouchard is a Professor at Saint Anselm College's English & Communication Department. He serves as the founding Executive Director of the Gregory J. Grappone Humanities Institute and sits on the Board of Directors of New Hampshire Humanities. His roles include teaching, research, and administrative leadership, including a prior term as Executive Vice President from 1998-2003.
Dr. Bouchard holds a Ph.D. in English from Loyola University of Chicago (1988). His research focuses on early modern lyric and narrative poetry, with expertise in poets like Edmund Spenser, John Donne, George Herbert, John Milton, and Gerard Manley Hopkins. He has published three books analyzing 16th-17th century poetry and its cultural contexts.
He annually hosts the campus’s Shakespeare Sonnet Reading on April 23rd, celebrating literary tradition. His work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary literary practices, emphasizing religious and spiritual dimensions in poetry.
