Bernadette Andrea

Bernadette Andrea is a Professor of Literary and Cultural Studies in the Department of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). She holds affiliations with the Center for Middle East Studies, the Comparative Literature Program, and the Department of Feminist Studies. Her research focuses on early modern British literature, postcolonial studies, gender/sexuality theories, and global cultural exchanges. She earned her PhD in English from Cornell University, specializing in early modern women’s writing and Arabic studies. Notable works include *The Lives of Girls and Women from the Islamic World in Early Modern British Literature and Culture* (2017) and *Women and Islam in Early Modern English Literature* (2007). She has edited several volumes, including *Travel and Travail: Early Modern Women, English Drama, and the Wider World* (2019). Her scholarship bridges early modern texts with contemporary issues in global literature and feminist critique.
