Dr. Berna Akcali Gur is a Lecturer at the School of Law, Queen Mary University of London, and a Convenor for the Outer Space Law module at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS). She holds a PhD (2014, King's College London), LLM (University of Pennsylvania), and LLB (Ankara University), and is a qualified lawyer in Istanbul.
Her research focuses on public international law, WTO law, and EU law implications of advancements in information communication technologies (ICT). Key projects include the Global Governance of Satellite Broadband and analyses of cybersecurity, data sovereignty, and the geopolitical dimensions of digital infrastructure. She collaborates with the Digital Governance Cluster at the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies.
Her recent work spans satellite broadband regulation, cybersecurity policy, and data protection law, with publications in journals like Telecommunications Policy and Computer Law & Security Review. She has received grants, including an Internet Society Foundation research grant (2022), and actively engages in global internet governance through organizations like GigaNet and the European Centre for Space Law.
As Chair of the GigaNet Membership Committee and member of the Annual Symposium Program Committee, she contributes to internet governance debates. She has presented at forums including the Internet Governance Forum (Kyoto, 2023), RightsCon (2023), and the European Security and Defence College (2023).
