Benoît Drolet is a Full Professor and interim Director of the Master's and Doctoral Programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Université Laval. His research is conducted in collaboration with the Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec (IUCPQ), where he supervises students and research professionals.

Dr. Drolet's research focuses on the pharmacogenetic and pathophysiological modulation of drug effects on cardiac electrophysiology, particularly in the context of diabetes, which increases susceptibility to life-threatening arrhythmias. His work explores how metabolic diseases alter drug metabolism (especially via CYP450 enzymes) and ion channel function, leading to adverse cardiac events. He investigates both molecular mechanisms and clinical implications of drug-induced arrhythmias, aiming to improve drug safety and personalized therapy.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend in cardiovascular pharmacology, with emphasis on drug-induced QT prolongation, immunosuppressants, antiviral agents, and metabolic influences on drug disposition. Key themes include CYP450 enzyme modulation in diabetes, hERG channel blockade, and pharmacokinetic optimization in transplant patients.

Dr. Drolet has supervised students such as Johnson Kuan, Pharm.D., and collaborates with research professionals including Sylvie Pilote, M.Sc. His research is funded by the Foundation of the Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec and Diabète Québec, supporting studies on diabetic cardiomyopathy and drug safety. He teaches undergraduate courses in systemic hormonal preparations, blood medications, and cardiovascular drugs, as well as graduate-level courses in pharmacology and grant writing.
He is a key member of a research team focused on cardiac electrophysiology and drug safety at the IUCPQ, contributing to both basic science and clinical translation in pharmaceutical sciences.
