Benjamin Walther is an Assistant Professor at the Marine Science Institute of the University of Texas at Austin. Previously, he served as a Research Fellow at the Australian National University (ANU) within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. He holds a B.A. and B.S. from the University of Texas at Austin (2000) and a Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from MIT/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (2007).
His research focuses on coral reef ecosystems, environmental variability reconstruction via chemical proxies in fish otoliths and corals, and migratory patterns of marine species. He has contributed to studies on reef resilience, climate change impacts, and fisheries sustainability in tropical regions.
Key collaborations include work with Malcolm McCulloch and Mike Kingsford on GBR environmental reconstructions. His current projects aim to advance understanding of reef adaptation mechanisms and ecological responses to global changes.
