Benjamin Redman is a Research Development Officer and Research and Engagement Lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, specializing in music education technology. He holds a PhD (2022) from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland focusing on videoconferencing and low-latency technologies in instrumental music teaching, alongside a PGDip (2004) from the University of Reading and a BA in Education Studies (2000) from the University of Stirling.
His research interests center on leveraging technology such as LoLa (low-latency audio) to enhance music education, particularly in conservatoire settings. He has published on videoconferencing applications for instrumental lessons and participated in projects like the SWING initiative. His work explores both practical and pedagogical dimensions of digital tools in music instruction.
Redman has presented at academic conferences and served as an editor for the Scottish Journal of Performance (2016–2018) and on the committee of the Scottish Graduate School of the Arts and Humanities (2014–2016). He has also held roles as an Academic Skills Advisor at Edinburgh Napier University (2020–2021) and an Instrumental Music Teacher with Scottish Borders Council (1996–2021).
