Benjamin M. Cherry serves as Assistant Professor of Medicine (General Medicine) at Yale School of Medicine and works as an academic hospitalist at VA Connecticut Healthcare System. He directs the Internal Medicine Subinternship for the Department of Internal Medicine and co-chairs VA Connecticut's Clinical Ethics Committee while leading its Scarce Resource Allocation team.
Dr. Cherry's primary research interests include point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum development, health systems, health care policy, and hematologic neoplasms including multiple myeloma. His scholarly work demonstrates expertise in medical education, diagnostic accuracy, and pulmonary hypertension biomarkers. His publications span clinical education, diagnostic medicine, infectious disease management, and hematology-oncology research.
His awards include the Asghar Rastegar VA Teacher of the Year Award, Ralph I. Horwitz Research in Residency award, and the Noether Memorial Fund Award for excellence in therapeutics. Dr. Cherry also serves as Health and Public Policy Chair for the Connecticut chapter of the American College of Physicians and as Emergency Medical Services commissioner for Woodbridge, Connecticut.
Dr. Cherry completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and received his MD from Case Western Reserve University, where he graduated with Honors and Distinction in Research. He previously earned a BA in Political Science and International Studies from Northwestern University.
