Dr. Benjamin Lindsey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. He leads the Lindsey Lab, which focuses on neural stem cell behavior across lifespan stages using zebrafish models. His work integrates advanced imaging (e.g., fluorescence confocal, live in vivo imaging) with molecular techniques like RNA-sequencing to study nervous system repair, niche development, and learning.
Education:
- PhD in Neuroscience, University of Toronto (2014)
- MSc in Anatomy and Neurobiology, Dalhousie University (2007)
- BSc in Zoology and Neuroscience, University of Guelph (2004)
Research Themes: Neural stem cell niche maturation, plasticity-linked behavior, and regenerative potential following injury. The lab investigates how environmental stimuli and molecular regulation influence neural stem cell function, with applications to spinal cord injury and neurodegenerative diseases.
Affiliations: Affiliated member of the Spinal Cord Research Center (SCRC) at the University of Manitoba. The lab operates Canada’s first zebrafish facility dedicated to neural stem cell research.
Training Environment: Invites undergraduate/graduate students and postdocs to join interdisciplinary research on regenerative medicine and adult neurogenesis.
