Dr. Benjamin Greenberg is a Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, with a secondary appointment in Pediatrics. He joined UT Southwestern in 2009 and is internationally recognized for expertise in rare autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system, including transverse myelitis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), and autoimmune encephalitis. He leads the Transverse Myelitis and NMOSD programs and founded the pediatric CONQUER initiative at Children’s Health Dallas. His leadership roles include Vice Chair of Translational and Clinical Research in Neurology and Director of the Perot Foundation Neurosciences Translational Research Center.
Dr. Greenberg’s research focuses on autoimmune CNS conditions, clinical trials, and biorepository development. He has led over 20 clinical trials, including phase 1 gene therapy trials, and oversees a biorepository with 7,000+ samples. His work emphasizes biomarker discovery, antibody profiling, and novel therapies for neuroimmunological diseases. Key collaborations include studies on Epstein-Barr virus interactions, MOG antibody disorders, and CNS autoimmunity.
His research interests span neuroimmunology, MS treatment optimization, and pediatric neurology. Recent studies highlight advancements in anti-CD20 therapies, CNM-Au8 nanomedicine, and biomarker validation. Awards include Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society membership and distinguished teaching recognition.
Dr. Greenberg collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to advance translational research, with a focus on improving diagnostics and therapies for rare neurological conditions. His lab’s work bridges clinical care and scientific discovery, addressing gaps in understanding autoimmune CNS diseases.
