Irena Dujmovic Basuroski

Irena Dujmovic Basuroski, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, serving as Division Chief for Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology and Program Director for the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Fellowship. Under her leadership, the UNC MS Division earned recognition as a Center for Comprehensive MS Care by the National MS Society, and she established The Bodford Family Transverse Myelitis Center—one of few U.S. centers dedicated to transverse myelitis care.

Dr. Dujmovic Basuroski specializes in immune-mediated CNS disorders including multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, and transverse myelitis. Her research integrates biomarker discovery in cerebrospinal fluid with biomedical engineering approaches to mobility impairment, emphasizing translational applications for patient care. She conducts clinical trials in MS and NMOSD while advancing rehabilitation methodologies.

She directs The Bodford Family Transverse Myelitis Center and leads UNC's MS/Neuroimmunology Division, which provides multidisciplinary care focused on improving patient functionality and quality of life through personalized treatment protocols grounded in physician-patient trust and empathy.
