Benjamin D. Levine

Benjamin D. Levine, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Cardiology. He holds the Distinguished Professorship in Exercise Sciences and serves as founding Director of the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine (IEEM) at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, where he occupies the S. Finley Ewing Jr. Chair for Wellness and the Harry S. Moss Heart Chair for Cardiovascular Research. A clinician, researcher, and educator, he has received numerous accolades including the Peter van Handel Award, NASA’s 'Most Compelling Results from the ISS' (2013), and fellowships from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and American Heart Association.

• Education: Bachelor’s in Human Biology from Brown University (magna cum laude), MD from Harvard Medical School
• Training: Internal Medicine residency at Stanford University Medical Center, Cardiology fellowship at UT Southwestern

Dr. Levine’s research focuses on cardiovascular adaptation to exercise training, deconditioning, aging, and extreme environments like spaceflight and high altitude. His work spans clinical cardiology, autonomic physiology, and translational studies for athletes and patients with syncope/orthostatic intolerance. He has contributed to international guidelines for managing athletes with heart disease and served as principal investigator for NASA experiments on the International Space Station.
