Benjamin Cornelius-Bates is a music theorist and educator affiliated with Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music. He holds a D.M.A. from West Virginia University and teaches music theory. As an accomplished composer and organist, he serves as Director of Music Ministries at St. Paul of the Cross Monastery in Pittsburgh. His work spans composition, improvisation, and scholarly engagement with liturgical music and Baroque performance practices.

Research Interests: Benjamin focuses on composition, organ improvisation, and the intersection of liturgical music with historical performance practices. He has presented lectures on temperament systems in early music and served on panels for national conventions.
Professional Recognition: He was a finalist in the 2012 Kansas City AGO Composition Competition and a semi-finalist in the 2011 André Marchal International Improvisation Competition. His compositions, including Sonata No. 1 and Fantasia primi toni, are widely performed and recorded.
Teaching & Service: Benjamin currently teaches music theory at Duquesne and has held academic positions across the Pittsburgh region. His YouTube channel documents his experimental improvisations and performances.
