Benjamin Alex is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of York. His research focuses on social communication between humans and animals, particularly dogs, including dog-directed speech and canine responses to communicative signals. He holds a BSc and MSc in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of York, with a pending PhD in Psychology (viva pending).
His current projects explore acoustic properties of speech directed at infants and pets, individual differences in dog-directed speech production, and contextual barking in dogs. Collaborators include Prof. Katie Slocombe, Dr. Sally Quinn, and Prof. Alex Wade. He teaches Research Methods and Academic Skills in the BSc Psychology program.
Benjamin’s work spans interdisciplinary areas including animal behavior, cognitive neuroscience, and educational strategies. His publications address topics from human visual perception to effective teaching methods in higher education.
