Bengu Erguner-Tekinalp, PhD, is a Professor of Education at Drake University's School of Education. Her roles include serving on boards for organizations such as the Iowa School Counselors Association, North American Society of Adlerian Psychology, and editorial boards for journals like the Journal of School Counseling. She holds a BS and MS from Middle East Technical University (Turkey) and a PhD from Auburn University.
Her research focuses on cross-cultural counseling, positive psychology, school counseling, mindfulness, and Adlerian Psychology. She teaches courses such as Counseling Diverse Populations, Theories of Counseling, and Human Development. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes a holistic approach, blending cognitive, emotional, and spiritual learning through experiential methods like role-playing and empathy-building exercises.
Dr. Erguner-Tekinalp has contributed to initiatives like the Iowa Refugee Support Project and Social Emotional Learning taskforce. She advocates for overcoming cultural and personal barriers through mindfulness and social interest principles. Her work bridges theory and practice, aiming to foster connection and resilience in educational settings.
