Bengt Johansson is a Professor at the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMG) at the University of Gothenburg. He has held leadership roles as Head of Department (2008–2011, 2013–2014) and Vice Head with educational responsibilities.

Research Interests:
His work focuses on media, power, and democracy, with a primary emphasis on crisis and risk communication, political communication, and strategic communication. He explores the media's role in shaping societal perceptions, election campaign coverage, and political advertising trends, particularly during the pandemic and in high-trust Nordic societies.

His most recent articles examine media agenda-setting, crisis trust dynamics, EU election narratives, and migrant information-seeking behaviors. Collaborative works include theoretical frameworks like the IDEA Model and comparative analyses of Nordic pandemic responses.
