Benedicte Seierup is a Lecturer in Movement at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), where she has been affiliated since 2009. She teaches on the BA Acting Programme and coordinates the New Work module, mentoring students in creating original pieces for events like Enquête and the On The Verge Festival. Her career spans acting, devising, directing, and movement direction, with notable collaborations with Dominic Hill at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow and Lucien MacDougall in devising plays such as The Nose (After Gogol).
Education: Trained as an actor at the Guildford School of Acting and under Jacques Lecoq at L’École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, where she also studied scenography at the Laboratoire d’Etude du Movement (L.E.M.). She maintains ties with Lecoq, having attended workshops and assisted Paola Rizza there.
Research & Practice: Specializes in physical theatre, movement direction for performance, and collaborative creation. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary methods and the integration of movement into narrative and character development. She directs RCS actors annually for the Sam Wanamaker Festival at Shakespeare’s Globe in London.
Notable Projects: Movement direction for productions like A Christmas Carol, Cinderella, and Crime and Punishment at Citizens Theatre, and co-creation of four plays with Lucien MacDougall.
