Dr. Benedict Albensi is a Professor at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, and Principal Investigator at St. Boniface Hospital Research. His research focuses on aging, Alzheimer’s disease, brain injury, and mitochondrial function, with a key emphasis on NF-kB's role in inflammation and memory. He holds cross-appointments as a Research Scientist at the Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba and a Research Affiliate at the University of Manitoba Centre on Aging.
Education: PhD in Neuroscience (University of Utah, 1995), MA in Biology (Sonoma State University, 1992), BS in General Science (University of Oregon, 1982). Postdoctoral training at Georgetown University and the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, University of Kentucky.
Research affiliations include the Manitoba Neuroscience Network and the Division of Neurodegenerative Disorders. He is Editor-in-Chief of Molecular Neurobiology, a Board Director of MitoCanada, and Chair of the Nutrition, Metabolism and Dementia Executive Committee at ISTAART.
Awardees include top 1% recognition on Expertscape for Alzheimer’s research, multiple University of Manitoba Merit Awards, and Weston Brain Institute nominations. His work has advanced MRI methods for head trauma assessment and therapies targeting neurodegenerative disorders.
