Benedict C. Albensi

Benedict C. Albensi is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy, Nova Southeastern University. He holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Utah's Medical School (1995) and has held appointments at institutions including Georgetown University, Case Western Reserve University, and the Cleveland Clinic. His research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease (AD), mitochondrial dysfunction, and neuroinflammation.

Key research interests include understanding the role of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) in memory formation, sex-based differences in AD pathology, and mitochondrial bioenergetics. He has pioneered studies showing NF-κB’s role in synaptic plasticity and mitochondrial deficits preceding AD’s hallmark plaques.

His work has been recognized through top 1% Expertscape rankings in Alzheimer's Disease, tauopathies, and NF-κB signaling. Current lab efforts explore novel therapies like mitochondrial transplantation, estradiol’s neuroprotective effects, and AI applications for early AD detection.

Student opportunities exist across PharmD, MS/PhD, and postdoctoral levels, focusing on AD mechanisms, clinical trials, and animal models. Collaborations span dementia prevention, neuroimaging, and nutritional interventions.
