Dr. Ben Turner is a Lecturer in Political Theory at Queen Mary University of London's School of Politics and International Relations. His work critically engages continental political theory while integrating insights from anthropology, analytical philosophy, and empirical political theory. He holds a BA and PhD from the University of Kent, where his doctoral research on Bernard Stiegler's philosophy of technology led to his first monograph Returning to Judgement: Bernard Stiegler and Continental Political Theory (2023).
His research focuses on technology's political implications, reimagining work beyond capitalism, and the nature of political judgment. Current projects include a Leverhulme-funded investigation into post-work thought as a distinct political tradition and an exploration of workplace democracy under automated management. Turner emphasizes methodological innovation, advocating for interdisciplinary approaches to challenge continental theory's traditional boundaries.
Key awards include a Leverhulme Project Grant (2024-2026) and an ESRC 3+1 Doctoral Scholarship (2013-2017). His work appears in journals like British Journal of Politics and International Relations and European Journal of Political Theory, with publications analyzing Stiegler's philosophy, post-work theory, and critiques of multiculturalism.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on Globalization (POL355) and Modern Political Thought (POL264). Supervision interests span Bernard Stiegler's philosophy, work/post-work politics, and continental political theory. Office hours are held weekly via booked online sessions or in-person at Arts One 2.43.
