Belén Vidal is Reader in Film Studies at King's College London, specializing in historical film genres and European cinema. She holds a Ph.D. from Glasgow University and an M.A. from Georgetown University.
Her research examines representations of history in contemporary cinema, particularly biographical films (biopics), heritage cinema, and Spanish film history. Current projects analyze aging/gender in European cinema through the VolkswagenStiftung-funded AGE-C consortium and investigate cinephilia in transitional Spanish cinema.
Publications explore star performance in biopics, transnational film cultures, and digital practices in Hispanic cinema. Her theoretical work develops frameworks for understanding cinematic nostalgia, mannerist aesthetics in period films, and the politics of memory.
