Begoña Gonzalez Otero

Begoña Gonzalez Otero is an Affiliated Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, focusing on Intellectual Property Law with a specialization in European Patent Law, Copyright Law, and Interoperability. She holds a Doctorate in Law (2014, Santiago de Compostela) and Master’s degrees in Private Law and Intellectual Property and Competition Law.

• Roles: Senior Research Fellow (2019–), Visiting Researcher (University of Amsterdam, 2018), Academic Dean (EU Business School, 2015–2018).
• Research Interests: Intersection of IP and Competition Law, AI and IoT legal frameworks, data governance, software interoperability, sustainable innovation policies, and digital market regulations.
• Awards: Extraordinary Doctorate Award (2016), ATRIP Essay Competition Winner (2012), Clarke, Modet & Co. Best Master’s Thesis Prize (2008).
• Publications: Over 15 articles and monographs, including analyses of Machine Learning and Copyright, Transition to E-mobility, Digital Markets Act, and Data Governance in Emerging Economies.
