Basma Alloush is a part-time Lecturer at The George Washington University, with expertise in humanitarian policy, transitional justice, and Middle East affairs. She currently serves as the External Relations Officer at the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), where she leverages over a decade of experience in international policy and advocacy.
- Education: Master's in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School (thesis on diaspora roles in transitional justice for Syria and Liberia), Bachelor's in Finance from Northeastern University
Her research and professional work focus on:
- Humanitarian crises in the Middle East and MENA region
- Transitional justice mechanisms and diaspora engagement
- Policy advising and advocacy strategies for conflict zones
- Fieldwork in refugee and conflict-affected communities (Nigeria, Kenya, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen)
She has held senior advocacy roles at the Norwegian Refugee Council USA, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy (TIMEP).
