Barry Warner is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Waterloo, specializing in wetland ecosystem dynamics through ecological and paleoecological methodologies across diverse spatial and temporal scales.
His research encompasses:
- Wetland ecology, including peatlands
- Sediment stratigraphy
- Ecological and paleoecological indicators (e.g., macrofossils, pollen)
- Bioinformatics and Systematics
- Mining Biological Data
- Threats to Aquatic Ecosystems and their Interaction
- Conservation Ecology and Environmental Biology
- Increasingly Complex Water Challenges
Professor Warner has conducted field studies across Canada, the United States, Mexico, Chile, Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, Japan, and Iraq, analyzing wetland systems from seasonal to millennial timescales. He teaches Applied Wetland Science (BIOL 462 and EARTH 444) and actively recruits graduate students for supervision, reflecting ongoing academic engagement.
