Prof. Barry Marshall is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and Microbiology at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and Senior Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Biomedical Sciences' Microbiology and Immunology department. He is globally recognized for discovering Helicobacter pylori with Robin Warren in 1982, work that earned him the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. His roles include Director of the Marshall Centre for Infectious Diseases Research & Training, Consultant Gastroenterologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and founder of biotech companies Ondek and TRI-MED.

His research focuses on Helicobacter genomics, antibiotic resistance, and novel therapies. Key achievements include the Nobel Prize, Albert Lasker Award, and Dr. A.H. Heineken Prize. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and innovation.
Grants include funding from NHMRC, Western Australian Health, and international collaborations. He actively engages in industry advisory roles and public health advocacy.
