Barry Gordon, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, with a joint appointment in Cognitive Science. He directs the Cognitive Neurology/Neuropsychology Division and founded the Memory Clinic and the Mind/Brain Institute at Johns Hopkins. His research focuses on improving language, memory, and cognitive skills in individuals with autism, Alzheimer’s, and other neurological conditions. Gordon authored two popular books on memory and is Editor-in-Chief of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology. He has held leadership roles in professional societies such as the American Neurological Association and the Academy of Aphasia.
Education: B.S. Pennsylvania State University; M.D. Thomas Jefferson University; PhD in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University.
Research interests include therapeutic cognitive neuroscience, autism spectrum disorders, and memory dysfunction. His work has been featured on PBS, NPR, and major media outlets. Notable honors include the Roche Award and NINCDS Teacher-Investigator Award.
Publications span over 150 articles, focusing on neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, and clinical neurology. He has advised numerous students and contributed to grants in brain injury and neurobehavioral research. His lab explores neural mechanisms of memory and language rehabilitation.
