Baron Pineda is a Professor of Anthropology and Latin American Studies at Oberlin College, College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on human rights, indigenous peoples, and Latin America, with recent work exploring intersections between internet governance and cultural relativism.

He has authored the book Shipwrecked Identities: Navigating Race on Nicaragua’s Mosquito Coast and contributed to a 2021 special issue of the Yale Journal of Law and Technology on social media governance. His teaching includes courses like Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Digital Worlds: Anthropology of the Internet, and Practicum in Anthropology.
Notable affiliations include advising Facebook on content moderation challenges and participating in the Justice Collaboratory at Yale Law School. Research interests span indigenous politics, cultural relativism, and digital anthropology.
