Barbara Wasson

Barbara Wasson is a full Professor and Director of the Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE) at the University of Bergen (UiB), Norway. She holds an academic rank of Professor in the Department of Information Science and Media Studies. Her work focuses on AI in Education (AIED), Learning Analytics, and Data Literacy. She chairs major international conferences like LAK26 and leads projects such as the Trond Mohn-funded EduTrust AI and TAIS. Wasson is an active member of expert committees, including Norway’s Ministry of Education’s AI in Higher Education committee and the Council of Europe’s AI and Education group.

Teaching: Teaches data literacy courses (DIGI110, DIGI160) and PhD courses on AI in Education and Learning Analytics. Courses are accessible to the European CHARM alliance.

Labs/Teams: SLATE is a hub for learning analytics and AI research. She collaborates with global institutions like the Council of Europe and the Norwegian Ministry of Education.
