Barbara Miyuki Obermeier

Barbara Miyuki Obermeier is an Assistant Professor in the Visual Arts Department at California Lutheran University. She specializes in graphic design and digital art, with expertise in brand identity design, typography, and digital imaging. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes lifelong learning, technical adaptability, and creative inspiration for solving design challenges.

Prior to joining Cal Lutheran, Obermeier taught at Ventura College, UCSB, Brooks Institute (where she served as Program Chair for Graphic Design), and Cal State Channel Islands. Her professional work extends to curriculum development, outcomes assessment, and marketing strategy in academic settings.

She maintains an active graphic design practice focused on editorial/advertising design and branding, and has authored over two dozen books on digital art software for publishers like Adobe Press and Wiley. These works have been translated internationally and sold nearly a million copies.
