معرفی
Prof. Barbara Lechner is a Rudolf Mössbauer Professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), leading the research group on Functional Nanomaterials within the TUM School of Natural Sciences. She holds a dual background in chemistry (Mag. rer. nat., University of Innsbruck) and physics (PhD, University of Cambridge). Her career includes postdoctoral work at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a group leader role at TUM's Chair of Physical Chemistry since 2016.
Her research focuses on dynamic restructuring of functional nanomaterials under realistic conditions, employing advanced techniques like gas-phase scanning tunneling microscopy (FastSTM). Key areas include catalyst stability, metal-oxide interactions, and surface dynamics under reactive environments. Recent work explores cluster encapsulation effects, 2D material stability, and oxygen transport in catalytic systems.
- ERC Starting Grant (2019)
- Bavarian Academy of Sciences Young Fellowship (2018)
- Lecturer Award from the Chemical Industry Fund (2023)
Grants and awards highlight her contributions to surface science and catalysis. Her lab develops tools like the PyfastSPM software for microscopy data analysis. Current projects investigate pressure-dependent surface reactions and atomic-scale mechanisms in energy-related materials.
