معرفی
Kathrin Lang is a Full Professor for Chemical Biology at ETH Zurich (since 2021) and previously held positions at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). She earned her PhD in bioorganic chemistry from the University of Innsbruck and conducted postdoctoral research at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, UK) and the laboratory of Jason Chin. Her research focuses on synthetic biochemistry, developing tools to study biological systems through chemical synthesis of artificial biomolecules. She led the Synthetic Biochemistry Focus Group at TUM’s Institute for Advanced Study (2014–2020). Lang’s work bridges organic chemistry and biology, enabling site-specific protein labeling and functionalization via genetic code expansion. She has received multiple awards, including the MRC Centenary Early Career Award (2012) and the Anton Paar Science Award (2012).
- Education: PhD in Bioorganic Chemistry (University of Innsbruck, 2008)
- Postdoctoral Work: MRC-LMB (UK), Chin Lab (synthetic biology)
- Key Research Themes: Genetic code expansion, bioorthogonal chemistry, protein engineering
Her research has produced pioneering methods for in vivo protein labeling, enabling precise manipulation of cellular processes. Lang’s publications span high-impact journals like Nature Chemistry and Journal of the American Chemical Society, focusing on applications of chemical tools in biological systems. Her awards reflect her contributions to advancing synthetic and chemical biology.
- Grants & Funding: Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track Fellowship (TUM, 2014–2020)
- Labs/Teams: Leads the Synthetic Biochemistry group at ETH Zurich
