Barbara L. Ekelman serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences (College of Arts and Sciences) and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics (School of Medicine) at Case Western Reserve University. With over 30 years of clinical and research experience, she specializes in language and learning disorders across childhood, adolescent, and adult populations.
Dr. Ekelman holds a Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Sciences and maintains active certification as a licensed speech-language pathologist through private practice. Her educational background forms the foundation for her clinical and academic contributions.
Her research focuses on language-learning disabilities, childhood stroke, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorders (particularly hyperlexia), and developmental apraxia. This work integrates clinical practice with academic inquiry to address complex communication challenges across diverse patient populations.
