Barbara Hois serves as Director of Chamber Music and teaches flute, Alexander Technique, and chamber music at the University of Pittsburgh. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Arizona State University (1981) and a Master of Music in Flute Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (1984).
Professionally active since 1984, she was a founding member of the Con Spirito Woodwind Quintet and performed with regional orchestras. She is certified in the Alexander Technique (1995) through The Alexander Foundation in Philadelphia and teaches this methodology at multiple institutions.
Her pedagogical approach integrates somatic awareness through Alexander Technique with traditional performance training. She maintains an active performance profile alongside teaching responsibilities at Pitt and the Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy.
