Barbara Cisterna is an Associate Professor at the University of Verona's Department of Neurosciences, Biomedicine and Movement Sciences, specializing in Anatomy and Histology. She holds a B.Sc. in Biology (University of Pavia) and a PhD in Cell Biology (University of Pavia). Her research focuses on cell biology with emphasis on nuclear metabolism, utilizing advanced imaging techniques to study structural-functional modifications induced by nanoparticles in vitro/in vivo, and the effects of physical exercise on skeletal muscle in sarcopenia and Down Syndrome models.
She teaches anatomy courses across multiple programs, including Speech Therapy, Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, and Medicine. Current modules include Human Anatomy, Histology, and practical anatomy labs. Her research groups explore anthropometry, body composition, and multimodal imaging applications in biomedical contexts.
Barbara is actively involved in academic governance through roles on the PhD Board of Nanoscience and Advanced Technologies, degree course councils (e.g., Logopedia, Biomedical Laboratory Techniques), and committees overseeing teaching, quality assurance, and research internationalization.
