Professor Bailey Bowers is a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Oberlin College, affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences. They hold a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University (2022) and a BA from the College of Wooster (2017). Their teaching focuses on environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, and general chemistry.
Research in the Bowers lab investigates the chemical transformations of contaminants in water systems, leveraging mass spectrometry to study environmental impacts and remediation strategies. A key emphasis is on photochemical reactions in surface water and engineered water treatment systems. This work aims to enhance sustainability and improve product formulations.
No awards or specific grants are listed in the provided materials. Courses taught in 2025 include CHEM 101 (Structure and Reactivity), CHEM 341 (Trace Analysis), and CHEM 211 (Analytical Chemistry). The lab’s interdisciplinary approach addresses real-world environmental challenges, particularly in aqueous systems.
