Dr. Jianzhou He serves as an Assistant Professor of Environmental and Analytical Chemistry within the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics at Georgia Southern University's College of Science and Mathematics. He maintains his laboratory and office at the Armstrong Campus Science Center (Room 2011) in Savannah, Georgia.
His academic foundation includes a Ph.D. from Michigan State University, an M.S. from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a B.S. from Sichuan University, followed by postdoctoral training at Auburn University and the University of Arizona. His educational trajectory demonstrates deep expertise in both analytical chemistry and environmental systems.
Dr. He's research program centers on critical environmental challenges, specifically developing analytical methodologies for emerging contaminants like PFAS, investigating contaminant fate/transport in soil-water-plant matrices, and engineering advanced remediation solutions using materials such as biochar. His work bridges fundamental chemistry with practical environmental applications, addressing urgent concerns in water security and soil health.
His recent publications (2023-2024) reveal a strong focus on PFAS destruction mechanisms using biochar-enhanced processes, heavy metal sorption dynamics, and soil remediation strategies. These works appear in high-impact journals including Chemosphere, ACS ES&T Water, and Science of the Total Environment, demonstrating consistent contributions to environmental chemistry literature.
He actively disseminates findings through conference presentations such as the 2023 ASA-CSSA-SSSA International Annual Meeting and maintains an active research group (HE Environmental Chemistry Lab) supported by multiple funding agencies. Dr. He teaches undergraduate courses CHEM 1211K and CHEM 2100, integrating his research expertise into classroom instruction.
