BANHORO Yacouba is an Associate Professor in Contemporary History at the Department of History and Archaeology, Université Joseph Ki-Zerbo (Burkina Faso), affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. He serves as Director of the Africa Multiple Excellence Pole and previously led the Department of History and Archaeology (2017-2019). His expertise spans African health history, global health governance, political history, and international relations.
Education includes a PhD in African History (2002-2005, University of Hamburg, Germany), DEA in African History (2000, Université de Ouagadougou), and MA in History (1991, Université de Ouagadougou). He held a teaching position at secondary level from 1992-2002 before transitioning to academia.
Research focuses on colonial-era health systems, HIV/AIDS policy evolution, and the intersection of health governance with socio-political structures. His work analyzes disease narratives in African literature and the impact of global health initiatives on local contexts. Recent publications address pandemic responses (Covid-19 in Africa co-edited volumes) and historical health policy debates.
Recipient of the Friedrick Ebert Foundation Fellowship (2002-2005) and Coimbra Group EU Fellowship (2010). Active in academic leadership roles, including directing research initiatives and coordinating interdisciplinary teams. His contributions bridge historical analysis with contemporary public health challenges in Africa.
