معرفی
Bert Janssen is a full Professor in Structural Biochemistry at Utrecht University’s Faculty of Science, leading a research group at the Bijvoet Centre for Biomolecular Research. His work focuses on molecular signaling processes critical for central nervous system homeostasis and disease mechanisms, using protein crystallography, cryo-EM, and biochemical techniques. He has held positions since 2012 as Group Leader and previously as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Oxford University (2008–2011).
- Education:
- BSc and MSc in Molecular Sciences (Wageningen University, 1997–2002)
- PhD in Structural Biology (Utrecht University, 2007, cum laude)
Research Interests center on structural cell biology, particularly intercellular signaling and adhesion mechanisms in the nervous system. His studies reveal how protein structures and conformational changes underpin complement activation, semaphorin-plexin signaling, and neuronal connectivity.
Recent Publications (2024–2012) span structural analysis of contactins, antibiotic targeting, neuronal adhesion receptors, and hematopoietic signaling. Key themes include calcium stabilization, conformational plasticity, and therapeutic implications for diseases like cancer and neurological disorders.
Scientific Awards include:
- NWO VICI Grant (2023)
- ERC Starting Grant (2015)
- NWO VIDI Grant (2012)
- PUG Thesis Prize (2011)
- HFSP Fellowship (2009)
- Cum laude PhD (2007)
Grants and Collaborations involve Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), European Research Council, and international partnerships. His lab trains PhD students and employs postdoctoral researchers to advance understanding of protein signaling systems.
