B.J. Schecter is the Executive Director of the Center for Sports Media at Seton Hall University, a role he helped launch in 2021. He joined the university in 2017 as a Professional-in-Residence. With over 30 years in sports media, Schecter has held roles at Sports Illustrated, The Boston Globe, and Baseball America. He founded Schecter Media, a content strategy firm, and has led initiatives like the Sports Media and Business Academy. His work spans multimedia projects, including Campus Rush, a college football website with a nationwide student correspondent program.
Education: Graduated with honors from Northeastern University in 1996, where he also managed the men’s basketball team. Schecter has served as an adjunct professor at Northeastern, Fordham, Southern Virginia University, and CUNY’s Graduate School of Journalism.
Key roles include program leadership at the Wharton Sports Business Academy (2021, 2023) and founding Seton Hall’s Sports Media and Business Academy in 2024. He focuses on mentoring young professionals and has contributed to high-profile projects like Crime in College Football and Gangs in Sports.
