Aziza Chaouni is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto’s John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. She founded Aziza Chaouni Projects, a multidisciplinary design practice operating between Fez, Morocco and Toronto, Canada. Her work bridges sustainable architecture, heritage conservation, and community engagement in arid regions.

Chaouni’s research focuses on integrating architecture and landscape through sustainable technologies in arid climates, with emphasis on modern heritage preservation and adaptive reuse. She has led high-profile projects such as the rehabilitation of the Sidi Harazem Thermal Bath Complex in Morocco, Old Fourah Bay College in Sierra Leone, and the Qarawiyyin Library in Fez. Her work intersects ecological design, cultural preservation, and social equity, particularly in post-disaster and developing contexts.
Her awards include global recognition from the Holcim Foundation, Architectural League of New York, and World Monuments Fund. Notable projects include the Nouméa North Entrance Masterplan, anti-seismic earth brick housing prototypes in Morocco, and the Dessine-Moi Une Ville participatory urbanism initiative.
