Angela Fernandez is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto, with a cross-appointment in the Department of History. Her research focuses on legal archaeology, particularly the Pierson v. Post fox case, and animals and the law. She co-leads a book project on R v. Frederick Gerring Jr., analyzing over-fishing in international law. She supervises the Animal Law Digest and chairs the Directed Research Program.

Her work explores legal personhood for animals, property law critiques, and historical legal methodologies. Awards include the Truth & Reconciliation Teaching Award (2021) and ISAR Seeds Award (2020). She is an Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics Fellow and editorial board member of the Global Journal of Animal Law.
