Audrey L. Altstadt is Professor of History at UMass Amherst, specializing in Soviet and Azerbaijani history. Her research examines cultural politics in Soviet Azerbaijan, post-Soviet democratization, and imperial Russian minority policies. She holds an honorary doctorate from Khazar University.
Current projects include a study of US diplomats in post-Soviet states and analyses of authoritarian resilience in Azerbaijan. Courses taught cover Central Asian politics and propaganda.
