Danielle Ross is an Associate Professor at Utah State University, affiliated with the History, Cultures, and Ideas department. Her work bridges Islamic and Russian-Soviet history.
- PhD in Central Asian History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2011)
- MA in Central Asian History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2007)
- BA in History (Russian and East European Studies) and BA in Russian Language and Literature from Arizona State University (2003)
Her research examines Turkic-speaking Muslim communities under Russian/Soviet rule, with a focus on literature, Islamic law, gender, and colonialism. Current projects include a book titled We’re Not Leaving: Queerness and Disability in the Tatar Nationalism of ‘Abdullah Tuqay.
Her publications explore intersections of Islamic governance, minority identities, and imperial legacies in Central Eurasia, emphasizing cultural resilience and adaptation.
She co-edits works on Islamic legal frameworks in the Russian Empire and is affiliated with the Commission on the Study of Islam in Central Eurasia.
