Assaf Alon is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at Yale School of Medicine, affiliated with departments of Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Quantitative Biology. He holds appointments in the Janeway Society and Molecular Medicine programs. His research integrates structural biology, computational methods, and drug discovery to study membrane proteins and cellular signaling pathways.
Education: PhD in Structural Biology from Weizmann Institute (2012), followed by postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Weizmann Institute. His work focuses on receptor structures (e.g., σ2 receptor), bacterial sporulation mechanisms, and therapeutic antibody development. Notable contributions include using AlphaFold2 for ligand discovery and characterizing GSDMD pore formation.
Research spans structural biology, virology, and immunology with applications in drug development. His lab investigates protein-ligand interactions, membrane transport systems, and inflammatory pathways. He leads interdisciplinary projects combining computational biology with experimental validation.
