Asier Gil Vazquez

Asier Gil Vazquez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He is affiliated with the Television-Cinema: memory, representation and industry (TECMERIN) research group and the University Institute of Spanish Cinema. His teaching focuses on History and Information Science within audiovisual contexts.

Gil Vazquez's research explores the intersection of gender, cultural memory, and popular media in Spanish cinema and television. His work critically examines representations of femininity across historical periods—from Francoist-era comedies to contemporary streaming platforms—with particular emphasis on aging actresses, gender subversion tropes, and queer aesthetics. Recent publications analyze the evolution of female archetypes in costumbrista comedies, media objectification in sports coverage, and the recycling of cultural memory in post-dictatorship television.

He actively contributes to national research projects including Cine y televisión en España en la era digital (CITEDIG) and Memoria oral de las mujeres en el cine español (MEMUCED). As principal investigator, he leads studies on Spanish screenwriting professions and archival preservation initiatives such as the Estudio sobre la situación de la profesión del guion en España funded by DAMA and SGAE foundations.
