Ashneel Chandra is a PhD Candidate at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen, and an affiliated researcher with the OCEANSTATES project and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research. His research focuses on tropical intra-seasonal variability, oceanic waves, and their impact on weather predictability. Prior to his PhD, he worked as a Teaching Assistant in Physics at the University of the South Pacific (USP).
Ashneel holds a BSc in Mathematics/Physics and an MSc in Physics, both from the University of the South Pacific.
His research interests include understanding the physical processes driving changes in upper ocean heat content, the role of equatorial oceanic waves in atmosphere interactions, and improving weather predictability through these studies. He also collaborates on tropical cyclone research with USP.
Ashneel’s PhD position is part of a collaborative initiative between the University of Bergen and the University of the South Pacific (USP), established during the 2017 United Nations Ocean Conference to advance oceans and climate change research. His work contributes to advancing knowledge in tropical climate dynamics and ocean-atmosphere interactions. He is affiliated with the OCEANSTATES project and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research.
