Dr. Jonathan Lin is an Assistant Professor in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University, specializing in tropical meteorology and climate dynamics. His research combines theoretical modeling and observational analysis to study tropical cyclones, equatorial waves, and atmosphere-ocean interactions. He develops physics-based models for improved extreme weather forecasting and climate projection.
His primary research areas include:
- Tropical cyclone intensification and tracks
- Madden-Julian Oscillation dynamics
- Stratosphere-troposphere interactions
- Climate change impacts on extreme weather
- Development of open-source modeling tools
Dr. Lin created a widely-used tropical cyclone downscaling model and investigates how climate change affects storm behavior. As an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow, he examined cloud feedback mechanisms in tropical climate systems.
