Aritra Ghosh

Dr Aritra Ghosh is a Lecturer in Renewable Energy at the University of Exeter, based in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences. He is also affiliated with the interdisciplinary Environment and Sustainability Institute and serves as Programme Director for the MSc in Renewable Energy Engineering and Global Renewable Energy Engineering. His research is centered on advancing sustainable energy technologies for the built environment.

His research interests include:

• Energy Positive Buildings
• Smart switchable materials (e.g., Electrochromic, Suspended Particle Devices, Liquid Crystal)
• Advanced glazing technologies (Vacuum, Aerogel)
• Photovoltaics for building integration (BIPV/BAPV)
• Low concentrating PV systems (LSC, CPC, Holography)
• Building physics and solar/climate exposure
• Solar-powered electric vehicles
• Transparent wood and floating PV
• Agrivoltaics and the hydrogen economy

Dr Ghosh has secured multiple research grants from funding bodies such as EPSRC, ESRC, and international partners, focusing on smart glazing, soiling losses in PV, and adaptive building skins. His editorial contributions include guest editorships for special issues in journals like Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments, World Electric Vehicle Journal, Sustainability, and Materials, covering topics from smart windows to renewable integration in developing countries.

He is actively involved in teaching, delivering modules such as Solar Energy & Innovation (MSc), Energy Management (UG), Renewable Energy Systems (UG and MSc), and supervising MSc research projects. His media engagement includes interviews with BBC Cornwall, PV Magazine, and Smart Glass World, highlighting real-world applications of his research in sustainability, carbon footprint reduction, and energy innovation.
