April Ballard is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Health in the Department of Populations Health Sciences at Georgia State University School of Public Health, and an adjunct faculty member at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. Her research focuses on health disparities and equity related to water, sanitation, and hygiene, employing mixed methods to study social and environmental factors influencing health outcomes in vulnerable populations such as children, women/girls, and those experiencing houselessness.

Her work integrates advanced statistical modeling, qualitative methods, and theory-driven approaches to develop human-centered programs addressing inequities. She has conducted research in rural and urban settings across the U.S. (Appalachian Kentucky, Central Kentucky, metro-Atlanta) and Ecuador. Notably, she was a fellow in Emory's Center for Global Safe Water and Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health.
In 2021, she received the Agents of Change in Environmental Justice Fellowship. Her research emphasizes translating findings into actionable public health policies and practices.
